On Saturday 4th May, the Chief Adept of the Province of the South Midlands, R W Fra Dr Joseph F. Khalil-Marzouk VIII° & 9°, had the privilege of conferring upon R W Fra Dr Allan J. Laidlaw the Grade of Magus on behalf of the Supreme Magus.
Allan also received the Order of Christian Rosencreutz (O.C.R.) following 42 years (Zelator on 07/09/1981) diligent service to the Province in particular and the Society in general. Allan has been a member of Birmingham Midland College, No. 10, is an Honorary member and founder of Pythagoras College, No. 26, and is an Honorary member of Severn College, No. 38.
The conferrals were hosted by Allan’s lovely care home (who also generously provide refreshments) and witnessed by his son, Dr Kelvin Laidlaw (also a GP like his father) and Allan’s companion, Jean. The Chief Adept was accompanied by the Provincial Secretary, R W Fra Geoffrey Lates, 8°, and the Secretary of Pythagoras College, R W Fra Nick Appleton, VIII° & 9°, ACR.
The Chief Adept reminded Allan of all that he had contributed to the Society and Province over the last 42 years, and Freemasonry in general (currently 73 years in the Craft). Allan is sprightly and quick witted, which belies his age (he will be 100 on 4th June), and insisted on standing to thank everyone present for attending and what he called a “great honour”.
