Treasures of the SRIA Exhibition: A Night to Remember

The Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia (SRIA) recently held a remarkable exhibition titled “Treasures of the SRIA” at The United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE). This event was not just an exhibition but a celebration of the completion of the SRIA archives. A monumental task that has now seen all SRIA documents meticulously catalogued by UGLE. This significant achievement was made possible with the invaluable assistance of R.W. Fra. Alistair Lees and V.W. Fra. Martin Faulks.

The exhibition took place on Thursday, 7th September 2023, in the esteemed Museum of Freemasonry at Grand Lodge. The evening commenced with an enlightening introduction by the Supreme Magus M.W. Fra. Tony Llewellyn. He provided insights into the work that went into the archives and showcased a selection of the “Treasures” that were on display.

Following this, the UGLE Archivist and Records Manager, Susan Snell, presented a detailed account of how the documents were catalogued, offering attendees a glimpse into the intricate process behind this massive undertaking.

The event was graced by visitors from various corners of the world. Members of the SRIA from all over England, the Caribbean, and Canada were in attendance. Throughout the evening, attendees had the privilege of hearing presentations by Alistair Lees, Martin Faulks, and R.W. Fra. Derek Bain.

Among the many treasures on display, some of the most notable were books dating back to the 1600s. These included the Fama Fraternitatis, the Confessio Fraternitatis, and the Chemical Wedding of Christian Rosencreuz. These ancient texts are a testament to the rich history and heritage of the SRIA.

For those interested in viewing the SRIA archives personally, Fra. Alistair Lees and Fra. Martin Faulks are the go-to contacts. They will be more than happy to arrange everything for your visit.

The evening was undeniably a grand success, and the atmosphere was electric with enthusiasm and camaraderie. Post the exhibition, members of the SRIA congregated at the Hercules Pillars. Here, conversations flowed freely, covering a myriad of topics, in the unique manner that only SRIA members can truly appreciate.

In a delightful and unexpected gesture, Fra. Alistair Lees provided a sumptuous buffet for everyone, adding the perfect finishing touch to an unforgettable evening.

The “Treasures of the SRIA” exhibition was not just an event but a testament to the dedication, passion, and unity of the SRIA community. It was a night that will be cherished and remembered for years to come.
